Privacy & account data

Privacy policy

Timeline Studio keeps account data to a minimum. Hosted timeline content is encrypted before it leaves your browser, and your timeline vault password is never sent to or stored by the service.

01

Account information and Clerk

Timeline Studio uses Clerk for account registration, sign-in, session management, and account administration. Clerk is an authentication and user-management service. The personal information associated with a Timeline Studio account, including the account email address and related profile information, is processed through Clerk for these purposes.

Clerk processes account information on Timeline Studio’s behalf under its service terms. Information about Clerk’s own privacy practices is available in the Clerk Privacy Policy.

02

Timeline data

In local and browser-memory modes, timeline data remains on the device or in the storage provider selected by the user and is not stored in Timeline Studio’s Hosted Mode database.

In Hosted Mode, data retained by Timeline Studio is limited to timeline-related content and the records required to operate the account. Timeline document contents are encrypted in the browser before upload. The service also retains limited operational records, such as the Clerk account identifier, plan, timeline identifiers, filenames, timestamps, and custom-holiday settings, so that hosted timelines can be associated with the correct account and maintained.

03

Passwords and encryption

Timeline Studio does not receive or store the password used to encrypt a Hosted Mode timeline vault. It stores only a status flag indicating whether a vault password has been configured. Because the vault password cannot be recovered by the service, users are responsible for keeping it safe. Sign-in credentials are handled separately by Clerk.

04

Use and disclosure

Account and timeline data is used only to provide, secure, maintain, and support Timeline Studio. Account information is processed by Clerk, and hosted records are processed by the infrastructure providers used to operate the service. Data is not sold.

When a deletion request is submitted below, the request details are sent to the service administrator through Discord solely so the request can be reviewed and completed. A signed-out requester may be contacted to verify ownership of the supplied email address before deletion.

05

Retention and deletion

Account and Hosted Mode data is retained while the account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide the service. A user may request deletion at any time. Once a valid request is confirmed, the Clerk account and Timeline Studio data associated with that account will be removed, subject to any limited retention required for security, legal, or operational purposes.
